An Unbreakable Soul
The Unbreakable Soul
By Julian McDonald
He walks as tall as he is and speaks from his chest
And keeps his right hand planted over his breast
Each step that he took was full of purpose
As he put his own soul to the test.
He marched to the sound of his strengthened heart-beat
Down every road and every street
So all could see his strength proclaim
That his demeanor was as solid as concrete.
The rain he stomped through couldn’t hold him back
And he spoke and sang without a crack
While embracing the challenge of an endless road
To prove that he had no slack.
A smile lied on his triumphant face
That he always wore with his masculine grace
Until she met and appreciated him
And gave him change of pace.
They lived and laughed with a powerful vigor
And they grew closer as their hearts grew bigger
And once he dropped down to one knee
He sealed their deal with a swift diamond trigger.
Their days were full of laughter coy
While nights were used for play and joy
Till the day she used her dying breath
To say that it’s a boy
Instead of sinking to pits of despair
He held his boy and stroked his hair
And knew that what was in his arms
Would one day fill his pair
He knew that this world had left him grim
So he vowed to always take care of him
Taking the bad with the good
And braking out that telltale grin
To be in darkness but feel the light
will always make life forever bright
because nothing is quite as awesome
as standing tall through an endless night
He taught his son to always stay whole
To feed his mind gold rather than coal
Because nothing in this world can truly hurt you
If you keep an unbreakable soul.
