Two Worlds

I am from two worlds

I am from one world overflowing with rich culture

A world with spices that can inflame one’s taste buds and sense of desire

A world where my people fought for the right to be the only country in Africa to never be colonized

A world where Christianity was born

A world known as Ethiopia

However, I am from another world as well

A world with a gruesome start

A world started on the bones of slaves and Native Americans

A world where injustices continue to occur

A world known as the land of the free

But is it really free?

So, I am from two worlds

A world with thirteen months of sunshine

And a world with a lifetime of pain

This poem is about:
Me
My country
