Truth shines through when no one's looking

Location

I signed my name on a thousand ledgers,

a complex man, with simple pleasures,

a jeering clown, still searching for an aim,

I am a player, and life is the game,

I make people laugh, something I do well,

When it comes to corny jokes, I am the first one to tell,

But behind a wide smile, I have to confess,

Sometimes this life is like a game of chess,

meaning, unfortunately, that I don't get it,

how I am so fortunate, and others can't win it,

I think very often of those in need,

in my world full of comfort, their suffering I heed,

with a every bite I eat, I see starvation,

I sit in nice rooms, and think of homeless Haitians,

I look at the wonders that poor hands have built,

all while trying to fight back my guilt,

I see the good in all, sometimes to a fault,

I know when to remedy with sugar, and when to add some salt,

I have strange talents, and I don't quite know,

what I am going to be yet, or where on Earth I am going to go,

but one thing is concrete, in my hypothetical world,

I've got the best friends a guy could ask for, and a tongue that's now unfurled
