The Truth

If only someone had warned me

This is what it’s like

When you grow up.

The fairy tales

Are not the way

You dreamed they would be.

The monsters

Don’t look the same.

All your childhood stories

Are real,

Just not in the way you expected.

If only someone had warned me

That I would be stressed

All the time,

That I wouldn’t

Be able to relax,

That I would always

Have something

I had to do.

Growing up wouldn’t

Have seemed as fun.

If only someone had warned me

I would be treated like a child

But expected to act like an adult.

Maybe I would be able

To understand it.

If only someone had been honest

And told me the truth.
