Too Young
Location
“You’re too young to understand.”
“You’re too young to starve yourself.”
“You’re too young to be in pain.”
“You’re too young to have scars on your wrists.”
“You’re too young to want to die.”
It is thrown in the faces of teenagers today,
Used as an excuse to shrug off the problems we face.
We do not starve ourselves because of our youth,
But because of judgment,
Peer pressure,
And our own self-loathing.
We are not in pain because we are young,
We are in pain because we live in an imperfect world
Which does not have our best interest in mind.
We do not wear scars on our wrists because of our youth,
Or because we long for attention.
We wear them because we wanted relief,
Numbness,
Physical pain,
Anything to drown out the torture we felt in our souls.
We do not want to die because we are young,
We want to die because no one understands that we are human,
Or that we have feelings.
We are not too young,
No one is safe,
Because society doesn’t care about age,
But only how many it can drag down.
