Timeless Excuses

So I know there’s homework due today.

That much I really know.

I also know that now is the time

Where you collect it so…

I must explain to you

Why my homework isn’t here

It really is quite sad,

You might shed a tear.

My math homework was so beautiful,

I really was so proud.

When I finally finished it

I must have cheered aloud.

My dog who heard my yelling,

Came in to save the day.

And made a beeline for my homework.

As I cried “Mayday, Mayday!”

I tried so hard I really did,

To keep him far away.

I guess it seems to be

That it was not my lucky day.

To make up for this tragedy

I brought you this perfume.

I really am so sorry,

The guilt does so consume.

My entire being,

Oh look I see that tear!

You are truly crying…

Is that laughter I hear?
