Tied Together

Location

6 years old

Our favorite pumpkin patch in the fall,

Daddy taped home videos of us all.

Mommy always did my hair the same,

The lake absorbed our summer days.

I love you mom. I love you dad.

10 years old

Our traditions seemed to slightly change,

Mom was sometimes acting strange.

Daddy sometimes disappeared,

We cried to mom, we were in tears.

I love you mom. I love you dad.

15 years old

The life I'd known was left behind,

I bent the rules, I learned to lie.

Daddy yelled and mommy wept,

I used up all the trust they had left.

I love you mom. I love you dad.

18 years old

Mom and dad can't get along,

Too many people get involved.

Now I know to not make waves,

Just hold it in, pretend it's ok.

I love you mom. I love you dad.

They say one day it will all be done,

They will never have to talk again.

They say that, but they should know better,

Their kids will keep them tied together.

I love you mom. I love you dad.
