Tick-tock

Location

Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock

As I press the needle into the skin,

I am reminded of what could have been.

Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock

The time races by so slowly

For those who sweat so lowly.

Their pale skin,

A reflection of the past I lived in.

Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock

The cold blade in my hand brings me back again

To the craziness I lived in.

Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock

The crying,

The pain,

The fear,

The anger,

The hate,

The shame I bury inside for my professional life.

Tick-tock, Tick-tock, Tick-Tock, Tick-tock

For tonight I will not overdose,

For tonight I will not cut,

For tonight I will not die,

Because I must care for others and maybe save a life.

Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock

My time is up,

My card is punched,

My patients I praise,

My life is saved,

My job is all I have to thank.

Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock
