Is There No Hope?

Every day I wake up,

Grab a water, grab a book.

I study for hours on end,

And when I finish, I plug myself into the Internet.

Twitter, Youtube, Facebook, all are checked for a brief period of time

And then I check the news

And all the happy emotions previously seen

Are cut down and no longer gleam

As I lean in, and it seems

That hope is no longer there.

Flights gone missing,

People dead,

Corruption, scandals, diseases spread.

The blood boils at seeing such dreads; and yet,

When I head to school, no such topics spread.

It's all about the newest iPhone, or iPad;

Or how some new fashion style is now a fad;

Whatever happened to an honest discussion?

Since when was knowledge ridiculed?

How has it become this way?

Is there any hope left for this generation?

We the people will find out; it's our nation.

Let our minds blossom and grow;

Or else, no hope remains for those below.
