From then to now, the unforgettable struggle
Location
What does it mean to be free,
To live without restraint.
These are the questions asked by the people,
The people who where once confined.
Ohh how long it took,
Until they were accepted,
Into society as an equal.
But the struggles they faced will never be forgotten.
The many years of living in hatred, pain, and even fear.
Fortunately, the great men who stood firm,
Fought for the future of the oppressed.
Not with fists but with words,
words that would crumble the color barrier,
And shed a new light of opportunity.
From the times of slavery,
To today where the first African American can now be called the president,
We have made it far.
