To Them We Owe

Tue, 06/14/2016 - 20:08 -- Niat H

To them we owe so much,

for the bravery of Eritrea’s martyrs, is mighty.

Because through their determination and sacrifice, our country was given life.

We would not be here if it weren’t for the heroic men and valiant women

that readily, willingly, unquestionably gave their sacred lives for the sake of a beloved nation.

A nation suffused with the enlightening and enriched people and culture.

We, all Eritreans, have a promise, a legacy because...

Every uttered, spoken word...

Every living, breathing second we endure...

Every virtuous, innocent child brought to life in our nation…

Would not have been possible without our heroes and heroines

No longer is the slaughtering of pregnant women,

No longer is the blood shed of thousands of desperate martyrs,

No longer is the slaying of innocent children playing on obliterated neighborhoods,

No longer is the deterioration of a beloved country and the precious people of Eritrea.

The birth of our nation has been obtained by the hallowed lives and sacramental blood

who have sacrificed for us to live and thrive where we are today.

Through these courageous heroes and heroines, I am able to say this today:

I AM PROUD TO BE ERITREAN.
