Thank You!

Dear Dad,

Where were you?
When mom was working 24/7 to put food on the table.

Where were you?

When your own flesh and blood came into the world unstable.

Where were you?

When my brother started dealing so we could keep on the cable.

I know where you were,

With multiple other women and your multiple other kids.

It seems that you were only there during the bad times,

The time when you ran my brother over for not listening,

The time when you hit my mother and left her quibbling,

The times when you entered the room and the air started thickening.

I remember I would hold my breath around you because I didn’t want to breathe the same air,

In fear that I would become like you,

In fear that I would beat, cheat, and treat women the same way as you.

To be honest I hated you,

But I thank you with all my heart.

For if it was not for you, I would not be in this position.

Instead of talking to admission, I would probably be feeding into addiction.

Instead of chasing my dreams with all my heart, I would probably be chasing women that already fell apart.

Instead of eventually using my bachelors, I would probably be loading up a caliber.

So I thank you,

For it was you who instilled these values into me.

I continue to grow and flourish so unlike Kappernick I’ll never take a knee.

Its only my second semester and I have learned so much from this fruitful tree,

You must love yourself before you can love others,

You must learn to follow before you can lead

But you must learn to lead when everyone else follows,

You must learn to take advantage of every second

Because at any moment you could be at heavens gate check in,

You must learn that every saint has a past,

And that every sinner has a future.

This fruitful tree has given me much to think about in such short time,

So again I must say thank you,

For your actions gave me lessons for a lifetime.

Love,

Your son
