Thank Me, My Mentor

What have I taught you?

Though we have been together through each day and night,

what have I learned?

Each day we would walk away.

Every night begging no more

I'd pray.

Tears fell constantly,

We could see them, hear them shouting.

Begging "Let me go, let me out.

I can't do this thing called life any longer."

But thank me my mentor.

What I taught us was that we were okay,

we were going to be better tomorrow and the next day.

Tomorrow's became next days upon next days.

Better felt like a lie that I promised myself to get out of bed.

But as the sun rose each morning,

I saw us start to fight,

taking on what could become better.

Thank me my mentor.

Because better days were yesterdays.

Greater days were the present.

The present was a gift.

So thank me my mentor.

Without me, I would never have known,

Tougher days had gone away.
