Tell It To The Elephant
Tell it to the elephant,
the one that smothers the room of its air
and pushes us against opposite
walls in silent discontent, rubbing up
against our egos and indignation,
careless of the gossip that hovers
in the stifled air between us
and the truth that lingers too close
to the surface of our fragility,
mocking us with its looming
presence until finally we exhale
the breath we had been holding unawares
under the weight of only telling it
to the elephant in the room
