A Tear Shed For Child I Never Knew

A drop falls into her hands

Brown from the dirt around her eyes

She aches

Her skin pulled taught over her bones

She cries

Her tiny voice never reaching above the crowd

She sits

Her frame unable to support the burden of her existence

She dies

Her hunger overcomes her determination

A drop falls into my hands

A tear shed for a child I never knew

I ache

Knowing I could have done something to help

I cry

Knowing she deserved more

I stand

Knowing the time to act is now

I live

Knowing things must change
