Swallowed By Night

Location

Walking down a dark alley street

I see the reapers shadow following me

Never lived more than sixteen years

Those blood spattered walls soaked up more than my tears

 Standing at heavens golden gates

I needed a few moments, needed to wait

Truth and lies can make the dead awake

What made him think life was his to take

Sweet child, sweet child lay down to rest

These rainstorms that fall can shake the best

But if you manage to win the fight

Worries and cares will be swallowed by night

Now his childhood was one of a slave

The whip was his friend by night and day

At ten he ran from that hell called home

And hit the streets with the devils own

Growing up love was a foreign word

Somethin he was lookin for, but never heard

Boss said you had better prove your worth

Or we’ll throw your carcass off my turf

Sweet child, sweet child lay down to rest

These rainstorms that fall can shake the best

But if you manage to win the fight

Worries and cares will be swallowed by night

Put on trial and found guilty

He spent his last moments called foul and filthy

Boy that chair will be quite a shock

Tick, tock, tick, tock, someone just sped up the clock

But even as the straps to his body did cling

I held him in my arms and began to sing

Sweet child, sweet child lay down to rest

These rainstorms that fall can shake the best

Even though you weren’t able to win the fight

No worries, we will both be swallowed by night
