 The teacher asked

Class what do you want to be when you grow up?

The boy in front if me said,"A super hero."

Another, " Just like my papa"

As the teacher made her way round I thought about it hard so that I'd be prepared when she got to me.

A little girl said a singer.

I thought maybe I'll say a spy someone like Veronica Mars.

Another little girl anwsered  a princess.

Hmmmm. Maybe a vet

Then, I had it!

I'd say an archeologist digging in the sands of Egypt.

Then she finally came to me and  I opened my mouth to speak,

But what came out was not an archeologist,

Or a spy

Or a vet

What came out was,"like my mother"  instead.

"Shes superwoman." I proclaimed.

Not knowing what no 6 year old should at that age.

All I saw was the cape blowing in the wind.

The smile and strength to which there seemed no end.

That krytonian symbol of hope embroidered on her chest.

Her radiance as we stood on top of the world

And her warm embrace that said baby girl,  its just you,me, your grandma, and your sister against the world.

Hidden  was long hours at work and bus trips to school.

A deteriorating marriage and losing her self

All so that we could be successful and have a home

I still want that cape

But how I earn mine will be different

The teacher asked

Class what do you want to be when you grow up?

Super woman.
