Summer Dreams

But with a sweet forgetting

The distance between us…

The clouds that are cool for all their setting

Pure as rose-lipped shell

A whisper inside they do compel

Then I speak

A word so dear

Something hushed I hear

In the white dawn clear

A rolling shore

a warm wind

Or merely nature’s silent breathing

It whispers once more

Waiting for the night and the wind

the woodlark at his partner's side

twitters his closing song--

All that meet -- day and care divide

But darkness lingers long

Searching for the sunshine

I cannot tell --but here today

a secret no one can find

a thousand billowy leagues away

buried in the dust once dead by fate

when the cloud is scattered

the sunshine’s glory is shed

when the lute is broken

And all seems dead

the periwinkle sky awakens

that crazed that bold and lovely morning

when summer begins

when distance ends

And once again

you and I, my friend

Attend to summer dreams
