Strong Black Women

Momma, Grandma, Aunties and Great Aunties
And all the others that came before you and me
Thank you for shaping me

Obama, Biles, Copeland, Queen Bey
And all the others that came before you and me
Thank you for shaping my ideology

Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, Coretta Scott King
And all the others that stood and fought like thee
Thank you for shaping the strength in me

Angelou, Brooks, Chin, and Giovanni
And all the others string words so eloquently
Thank you for shaping my poetry

Strong black women in history
Though underrepresented in books you live in me
So I thank, thank you, for mentoring me
