street life-volume 1

Location

people asked me

what are you?

i say a man

people asked me

what's your nationality?

i'm puerto rican

they looked stunned

that same ridiculous look that reminds me

of ewing's finger roll missed in the playoffs

but you don't look puerto rican

you look black

well i am black jerks

even better

i'm a taino black puerto rican

breezing palm trees

clear soft blue skies

with no patchy clouds

water crystal clear, blue, and deep

i represent the mixture of spices

in rich warm climates

i am the rain forest

that cleanses one's soul

i am indian

i am black

i am puerto rican

boriquen

the green island

of sweet vegetation

sugar cane

narrow mountain roads

i am a classic plate of

pasteles

mofongo

i am a classic drink of

coqui

pina colada

i am all these things proudly

what are you?
