A Story of Love and Loss

He loved not once but twice,

And both times it ended badly,

Both times he paid the price

And his story ends sadly.

He was young and untested,

His life was full of pain.

He thought he was infested

By depression’s deadly rain.

He met a beautiful girl,

Her darkness matched his own,

To him she was a pearl,

And for once he wasn’t alone.

He loved her with all his heart,

And he knew he had to tell her,

But she had to split them apart

And she left him in a blur.

Her family was a mess,

And away she had to fly,

Even though he loved her,

He didn’t get to say goodbye.

He tried to keep in contact,

And he was willing to wait.

But she couldn’t love him back,

And their friendship turned to hate

He loved not once but twice,

And both times it ended badly,

Both times he paid the price

And his story ends sadly.

He felt broken and bruised,

The love of his life was gone.

He knew that he’d been used,

And he was once again pain’s pawn.

He couldn’t take it anymore,

So he started to cut.

He’d lay crying on the floor

Hoping his heart would shut.

He decided he was done,

And he almost took his life.

He’d swiped himself a gun,

And he’d brought his knife.

He had the gun to his head,

And a slice across his wrist,

He wanted to be dead,

But then there was a twist.

He put the gun away,

And threw his knife into the darkness,

He told himself “one more day

Then if nothing changes I’ll meet the starkness”

He loved not once but twice,

And both times it ended badly,

Both times he paid the price

And his story ends sadly.

The next day he met someone new,

She was funny, beautiful and smart,

Their connection was instant and true.

And he felt a stirring in his heart.

For the first time in a long time,

He felt like somebody cared,

He no longer cut in his downtime,

Because now someone was there.

They were unbreakable together,

Or so everyone thought,

They didn’t see the awful weather,

That their love had brought.

Her family was a mess,

And away she had to fly,

Even though he loved her,

He didn’t get to say goodbye.

He loved not once but twice,

And both times it ended badly,

Both times he paid the price

And his story ends sadly.

This story’s true I avow,

Because I was there to see.

The reason I know him now,

Is because he is me

I loved not once but twice,

And both times it ended badly,

Both times I paid the price

And my story ends sadly.
