The Stone and the River

The Stone and the River
A mighty stone lies in a great river,
Though the water be cold, it does not shiver.
It presents a phantom trail in its wake,
and seems to don color for beauties sake.
The river, stronger then a thousand men,
and far older than Stonehenge,
could neither break, nor bend,
this single stone, neither now nor then
And though the stone, hard and mighty,
Can resist the river, and stand uprightly,
It gives no life, and cannot shine brightly,
It cannot grow, or turn water from snow,
It sits and stays, be the river high or low.
For the river, with unbridled power,
Cannot move the stone at any hour.
And the stone, so strong and still,
Is forever bound, to that spot to fill.
