A Stand For Equality

To All, There’s just one thing I don’t get, this one thing, almost a threat. The one reason all wish to abet________________________________ Why am I viewed as a damsel in distressFor what reason am I subject to sorrowAnd why do all think with their words they can bless________________________________ I don’t want your help nor for you to followAll this talk of just trying to assist me You can’t see, it just leaves me feeling hollow________________________________ Yes, I can handle responsibilityAnd no thank you, I don’t need help with my bagsI am strong; even the alone are carefree________________________________ Don’t give me your pity; I don’t own white flagsEnough with the sexism and stereotypesI am my own person, tired of finger wags ________________________________ Saying shush as if I don’t bear stars and stripes This land promised rights, not disadvantagesYes I’m a woman, and yes I have these gripes ________________________________ People striking from different vantagesThe media, press, even the President Don’t you know what our real disadvantage is?________________________________ Viewed as an inferior to great extentEquality is what we must engender Through judgement and bias, we must stay unbent ________________________________ We must unite against every offenderWomen together, we must stay persistent Women together, we’ll never surrender________________________________ Even though equivalence might seem distantOur battle for fairness must be constant________________________________        Signed,        Emily Weissman
