Stand

Location

What do you do

when you are watching someone flounder?

What can you say

when there’s no hand to grab around her?

I am here I am here I am here!

Let me in, I am waiting, I am here.

Reach out for me, I’m right here.

Why can’t you see me?

Why can’t you feel me?

You are drowning, I can see it.

It’s not hard to notice as you sink.

I am watching as you leave me

and I can’t help but think,

there are no splashes, and no struggle

I wonder why that is.

The world is starting to crumble

and you are not fighting anymore.

What do you do

when I can see you are in pain,

and it’s hurting more than ever.

I am here I am here I am here!

Let me in, I am waiting, I am here.

I will fight your fight with tremor.

Can’t you see me?

Can’t you feel me?

I am crying so loud now,

I don’t know how to be quiet anymore.

I am yelling so loud I’ve lost my breath

but the splashes are gone,

and I am watching you sink.

I have to go now, I cannot stay.

I’m afraid if I don’t leave now

I will never be able to get away.

What do you do

when it’s one or the other?

If I leave you, you will drown.

But if I stay,

oh, if I stay, I cannot stay

I love you, but can’t you see?

My feet are starting to sink,

with your wrists around my ankles.

I love you, but I cannot sink.

Not when I just learned how to stand.

Why won’t you listen to me?

I am here I am here I am here!

Let me in, I am waiting, I am here.

I have to leave now,

the sun is setting behind the hills

I think I’d like to go there someday.

What do you do?

I am watching you sink in a puddle,

and you will not listen,

when I tell you that you could save yourself

if you would only stand.
