he spells out his name in letters he imagines because -
      because          (he can't write)
  on the sand, and it's okay (it never stays
very long anyway)

mile-long legs
for days and hours; 
the span of a butterfly wing
would be too far

  (that's something he learned
        to spell)


there is a man who breathes dust like air
under bright colored tents with regality that pours
like snow - only hotter
only much hotter;


"sir, spare some water? we've 
been traveling for weeks.
    sir - it would be too
              far; too far."


he's just a child who
finds words in an empty sky.
