"Speak Your Mind"

Location

"Speak Your mind."

They told me as a child.

"Speak your mind."

They said,

Not realizing they were lying.

If they truly wanted me to speak,

They would not shoot down any attempt.

LIke a squirrel when it passes on my grandfather's lawn.

They would not cringe everytime I open my mouth.

They would not stop me when I spoke words,

Words like,

Feminism

Gay rights

Gun control

Abortion

Immigration

People

Feminism

Gay rights

Gun control

Abortion

Immigration

People

They would let me speak.

Let the ideas and my ideas roll from my mouth like a wave.

An uncontrolable, and natural creation.

A  wave that enfolds the sands on the beaches.

The tide bringing it,

In and out

In and out

In and out.

They would join  the discussiod

Doing something,

Adding

Subtraction

Something.

They would let me speak.

But they don't,

And I'm tired.

Tired of being lied to,

Of being shot down,

Of being told no.

I

Will

Speak.

And to the words I ever feared to speak,

Feminism

Gay rights

Gun control

Abortion

Immigration

People

I am sorry.

Sorry iwas ever scared to speak of you

Like that dirty uncle no one mentions because he's a

Drunk

A cheat

A liar.

But, I will on longer be afraid.

I will state my opinion.

I will no longer be lied to.

They told me,

"Speak your mind."

I will.

I will speak my mind.

I hope it's everything they asked for.
