Sonnet 001

If you looked at me you wouldn’t know the truth

You would not suspect anything at all

but something tragic happened in my youth.

Nothing could have prepared me for the fall.

She did things to me a child should not know.

She was my friend and we had to hide it.

I knew it was wrong and I felt sorrow.

I fell into the deep and scary pit.

It still hurts after fourteen years.

I now know I’m not alone in my pain.

There are others who had abusive peers.

We need to be supportive to stay sane.

I sometimes wonder how she is doing

and I truly hope she is surviving.
