Song of Myself
Location
Identity is more than a name,
Identity is who I was and who I became.
Underneath the thick veneer,
My heartbeat lies and holds all my fear.
And with each click and thump and beat,
My heart cries out, its fingers reach,
To understand and see and love
To see the one who stands above.
When the mask of stoicism is pulled away,
You will find colors in a vast array,
This thin layer, which your eyes can see,
Can hardly touch the me that is me.
I try, I try to show it to you,
But try as I might, you will not have a clue.
“Who is this person?” You ask your self,
And I become the funny one sat upon the shelf.
Take me down once more and discover,
That I haven’t stopped growing since you took cover
And the sillies that once resided within,
Have grown and become beauty akin.
The quirks and bumps that once made them all shudder
Have grown and become this butterflies flutter,
But you cannot see this from looking outside,
You will have to venture down where my true person resides.
So go down you will!
Where the mossy ground’s filled,
With the twinkling of sun and the bits of the moon,
There you will find me sleeping in the star’s big spoon
Colorful me,
That you cannot help but see,
Created to be a little light,
In the darkness of night.
