Sometimes, I think I can be a poet.

sometimes i think i can be a poet.
i idealize the way a writers words flow and connect with each other,
the way their meanings dance with my soul, like wind through hair.

when teenagers express themselves, they are immediately shot down,
as if it were a crime to share your feelings,
to admit to feeling something more than you're told to,
more than you're expected to.

starlight bursts through my veins when i think of writing something beautiful,
something that may inspire you to write your own poem,
something to learn from, to share, to embrace.

my dream, i think, is to make people understand,
that not everything is as simple as it seems,
and some people struggle more against the chains society wraps around us,
strangling our voices, diseasing our minds.

sometimes i think i can be a poet,
other times, not so much.
