Somehow, In Every Way
We heard the news January of ’18.
Tears burned my face as the pain entered my heart.
It was not a happy day; it was not a pretty scene.
A new, difficult journey was just beginning to start.
As the disease ran its course, our family grew tighter.
We spent every day with her on the red porch in the swing.
Her stories made us laugh, and our smiles grew brighter.
Time was running out; we knew what the future would bring.
Life, so sweet and so short, we knew we had to say goodbye.
Not forever, of course, just for a little while.
Cancer took her away, and I couldn’t help but ask God why.
Every day I miss her hugs, her stories, and her smile.
She taught me to be kind and to cherish the small things.
She told me to do what I love and love what I do.
She showed me how to be strong no matter what the future brings.
And she even said it was okay to make a mistake or maybe two.
Spread God’s love, have some passion, and chase your dreams.
Each day read your Bible, pray, and live your purpose.
Hard times form your character; they’re not as hard as they seem.
But that knife dug even deeper on that first Sunday service.
I walked in. She wasn’t there; an empty pew in her place.
Her impact, so strong, made the pain so deep.
She lived a good life; she reflected God’s grace.
My Grandma, my role model, for her I still weep.
She found her life’s meaning; I hope to do the same.
She left a vast impact that still inspires me today.
Her kindness was a fire; no one could extinguish her flame.
I know I want to live like her, somehow, in every way.
