Solace of the Solanine

Location

You were lying on the bed

As if you were sleeping

And I kissed your forehead

And I began weeping

You were not there

You were not sleeping

I traced the veins in your arm

They held the toxin

That did the harm

Full of volatile auxin

There was nothing I could do

They were bright and blue

I brushed your hair

Curled like tendrils on trestles

 I said a prayer

And removed the nettle

I placed your hands on your hips

And kissed your lips

I looked into your eyes

But they did not return my gaze

My heart was full of sighs

And I was in a daze

I said I love you

But it did not get through

You did not care

You were not weeping

You were not there

You were not sleeping

I sang you a lullaby

I said goodbye
