Societal Standards of Sameness and Sadness

Unfamiliarity

breeding insecurity,

look through the window

of Society

and tell me what you see.

Lowered moral values,

high expectations of success,

a web of double-standards,

and a fracture caused by stress.

A break in the perfection,

the gilded mask you wear.

Surely the great facade you built

will crumble, tarnish, and tear.

Contempt for every difference

like poison in a remedy.

They preach: Assimilation is the Cure

to rid us of the Enemy.

Too many times

I've seen someone cry,

pick a fight, cheat, or lie.

Copies of a phony smile

plastered to every dull face.

A face of judgment, filled with regrets.

A face of jealousy, hatred at its best;

of pain and sorrow and failed attempts

of constant yearning and hopelessness.

Now at the end of the day,

can you honestly say,

yours truly and sincerely,

without bending to Conformity

that when you look through

the window of Society,

you like what you see?
