Societal Perception

Location

Whispers echo off the forlorn walls shaming people into conformity.
“You can’t do that”, “that isn’t right”, “why would you wear that?”
Judgment shooting out at every angle of perception.
Spirits broken down by the narcissistic people of the world,
that don’t understand the art of individuality.

Walking in the patterned footprints left behind by humanity;
daring to step off of the course of normality.
Timid in overstepping the boundaries set by society
yet tired of a person’s lack of singularity.

Shaped and shoved into a culture that deems uniqueness a sin
though no one would ever make it audible.

Our generation is whiplashed by the continuous notion,
that everyone should be treated equally, and fit in.
The persuading elders in life tell us so long as we’re jubilant,
what others think is relatively insignificant.

However, social media has taken on the challenge
to force the image of perfection down our throats.
What we see is their unreachable model of ideality,
that causes pain and insecurity.

To ridicule people for how they live is a growing epidemic
that brings forth self-harm, hatred- injustice to one’s body.
How is it possible to tell someone the way they live is incorrect,
when only that person is in control of their body--Or are they?

Forcing someone to do what dissatisfies them is wrong,
or at least that’s what I have been told most of my life.
How can one justify using the cruelty of words to transform
A person’s image to that which is more appealing to some people.

Does it have to take a loss of one’s life to bullying for someone to care?
Or can humanity have a heart and stop all the pain?
