So, this is the world

So, this is the world

It’s colder than I remember

Childhood felt like the warmth of May

These days feel more like December

So, this is the world

Not quite what I’d expected it to be

The going gets tough often

And it turns out not even freedom is free

So, this is the world

Feels like a strange new place

So much division and war

Over everything from religion, to gender, to race

So, this is the world

Crazy how it turned out to be

I’m just reaching adulthood

Now I’ve gotta figure out how to make it work for me

So, this is the world

And I’m the young bird who has been thrown out the nest

I guess it’s time to spread my wings

I guess it’s time to learn to soar and live knowing I’ll always do my best

So, this is the world
