So, please, do not ask me.

Location

If you asked me how I felt about you right now,
I would not lie.

I would tell you about your voice-
How it floats into my ears
As if on angel wings,
And winds around my brain,
Strangling it with an odd joy, before
Tangling into my veins,
And settling deep in my heart,
Where I lock your words in a heavy trunk,
And save them for the quiet days.

I would tell you about your hands-
How, when they dance across a keyboard,
Twirl a pencil, or flip the pages of a book,
They possess such grace, it's as if they are
Musicians or artists in their own right.
And how when they brush against my elbow, or tap my shoulder,
I feel the plates of the world shifting beneath my feet,
And I wonder that no earthquake has come of it.

I would tell you about your laugh-
How melodious it is,
As if a robin perches in your throat
And sings with every breath.
I would talk about how I aim to hear it, and
How it's the reason I conjure cheesy jokes, then
Take too much pride when they draw a giggle out of you.

I would tell you about your eyes-
I would pause to describe them in a way
You've never thought of them,
And tell you that while you see near-grey irises,
I see reflecting pools of your kindness and your brilliance and your heart.
I would tell you that they are the deepest blue I've seen
Outside of the night sky, and how they are
The only thing I've ever wanted to drown in.

I would tell you about your grin-
The way it both breaks my heart
And pieces it back together.
And I would mention the way it taught me
How true the cliché of lighting up a room with a smile
Really can be, because if yours can
Illuminate my entire life,
Surely it can liven up any dark place.

I would tell you about your kindness-
How your gentle assurances
Make me feel so much better about myself,
And how your kind-hearted nature makes me
Want to be a better person, not so you will love me,
But so I can love myself as much as I love you.

Because, if you asked me how I felt about you right now,
I could not lie.
I would tell you about how I think I love you.
