Smelling the roses

Hebrews 2:14-15

14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood,

he likewise shared in their humanity, so that through death he could destroy

the one who holds the power of death (that is, the devil),

15 and set free those who were held in slavery all their lives by their fear of death.

How much is left of nothing?

And why does it seem so heavy?

If my sins are all forgiven

Why does rest pass me by?

I try for Christ to show me

The peace beyond understanding.

My mind shows issues of my past

Leaving behind a wishing well to die.

“Death where is thy sting?”

Well don’t look any farther.

It is stinging me day and night

And I’m sick and tired of it.

Where is “Joy of Salvation”?

That overcomes creation.

Where is the “Joy of suffering”?

And what is left of it.

I’m supposed to live forever

Already residing in Glory

To reach beyond the stars

Into Heaven’s precious psalm.

Oh flesh! Why do you cling to me?

You know I can’t let go.

You strangle me and pull me down.

Removing all realms of calm.
