Sleepless Nights
Tired of sleepless nights
And endless fights
Against time
Against hate
Tired of fighting these wars
Tired of trying to reach tomorrow
Tired of ideas
Swirling in my head
But having no time to turn them into words
Tired of watching unsung songs
Fade away
Like forgotten dreams
Always remembered
Yet never trusted
Never believed in
Those dreams that just become nightmares
That haunt me with their pretty shadows
And perfectly painted false hope
Tired of unfinished poems
And blank pages in blank journals
Emptiness in a heart that was once full
Tired of lying
Of pretending to be okay
Even though the world is falling down
All around me
Life is a rickety house built on the edge of a cliff
Looking over a stormy sea
Blue in the face from telling you to give in
To drown in hopelessness
To admit defeat
Blue in the face
From laughing at your house that doesn't even have a foundation
But it's okay
I have so many sticks and stones
Because all they threw at me were words
And I have my broken heart
Which beats on
Despite the cracks
And we'll build a better house
Using pieces of my heart
I'm sure I can spare some more
And we'll be far from the laughing evil sea
That can laugh and laugh
Until it's can't breathe
That can taunt and talk
Until it no longer churns
We won't be able to discern
Its hated screams from the faint breeze
No problem to us anymore
We don't care
And I still have this pen
Though the words it writes
Will fade just as soon as the ink within it
Like the breath within me
Like the pain within my heart
But I will remember the words
To unsung songs
I will penn the ends
To unfinished poems
I will fill the pages and my heart
Because everything fades
Even if they ask, why hurt yourself for silly words
Even if they say forget what you can't have
Remember
And write
Know
That sleep awaits you
In a land where there is always time
And everything rhymes
Some call it Wonderland
Others say it's magic
But you need not step through a looking glass
Or a wardrobe
To get there
You can't walk there
Can't drive there
All you have to do is close your eyes and open them again
This time look at the brave flowers
That poke up through the snow
Read the beautiful books
That world couldn't burn
The books, the stories
That lie within
I see them now
On the surface of your eyes
Sparkling and waiting
Ready to dance onto pages
Ready to be loved
To stand strong through judgement and hatred
Yes, the world may burn them
And scorn them
Set you on fire
And call you a liar
But they can't touch the words in your heart
So scream your poems
Long after the world
Has grown tired of your words
Write
It'll get better
I know
And it won't matter
How much the world
Deprives you of sleep and dreams
Because words will
AWAKEN
And arouse
And strengthen
And empower those who need your dreams
Words, poems, and love
Will keep you awake
Alive
And happy
Through a life
Where you will never be unhappy
Never again tired
Even after the words stop flowing
I promise
You will never tire
Of life
Of beauty
That keeps you from an ignorant demise
And blocks all strife
And let's in the wonderful light
