Skeleton Keys

Everyone knows the myths of the keys;

The namesakes of the human frame.

Those keys unlock with an ease,

Skeleton is their only name.

They unlock doors and unlock chests,

they reveal secrets, secrets galore.

But secrets are meant for the breasts,

so when they're found, there's emotional gore.

And trust me, those secrets will be found.

My skeleton in the closet was dark.

My mother discovered, emotions abound,

I used to think Death was an innocent lark.

My scars on my wrists, I didn't hide well.

The skeleton keys dragged me to the light.

Horrified to be forced to tell;

yet if I had not, my soul would be night.

To change my feelings then I would not,

instead I would change what I see.

I'll bring other suffr'rs a key for their thoughts,

and we'll abandon the night together.
