Sin's influence

Galatians 5:17 New English Translation (NET Bible)

17 For the flesh has desires that are opposed to the Spirit, and the Spirit has desires that are opposed to the flesh, for these are in opposition to each other, so that you cannot do what you want.

The flesh has been detrimental for as long as I can remember

It takes, at times, complete control as I helplessly stand by

It shoves me around and leaves an aftertaste of gember

That burns in my being and leaves a blistered: Oh! I tried

One returns so regularly and not seldom unexpected

When darkness takes hold in the middle of the day

To conquer and abuse the emptiness that is dissected,

and is quickly taken for granted in a life of dis-array

The backbone of your existence to be carved in stone

Lust, greed, and envy seem to cover your every bone

While deep within, you multiply every chosen clone

Of your desires to bring you to decay in this age alone

How long will one last until he seems whisked away

In a darkened hearse to be gently put six feet under

Will, anyone pays attention as there’s no one left to pay

As they scramble towards nothingness in a quiet slumber

The only thing left behind is maybe just a good memory

What the one was like in a fading reflection of the flesh

Are the parts instilled now in some others precluded destiny?

If I only had been spared through Christ’s love for these tests
