Silent Sea
When I was a boy
I crossed the sea
My wrists rubbed raw by chains
And the seabed was soft
Beneath sore feet
Oceans came down like rain
And by the light of the waning moon
I saw shadows swim beyond
The walls that rose above our heads
And rolled silently along
A fish came close to me that night
I reached out to touch its scales
But it disappeared when I came close
Swallowed by a whale
When I was a boy
I left behind
The chains bestowed to me
By men drowned in the crushing wake
Of my silent walls of sea.
