The lies I tell

Aren’t in words

Or in character.

They don’t tell stories;

They don’t create virtues.

My lips don’t build cities that never existed

Nor do my actions tell of merits I never earned.

Rather, my lies are in actions.

Not in hypocrisy,

Nor blasphemy,

But in heart.

My words and my heart don’t line up.

I sit on the other side of the screen as a dagger enters my soul,

And as I slowly bleed out

I whisper to myself,

“I don’t really care.”

And yet, I know

The greatest lies we tell

Are to ourselves.
