The Show

The Show

The boy stood behind the curtain, timid and shy,

Until another man walked up and asked him: "Why?

Why do you cower in the back and watch the crowd?"

The noise of the people struck him, it was far too loud.

He gripped the curtain harder and his knuckles became white,

For he knew if he failed it would be a dreadful sight.

His part was coming up, but he was filled with fear,

So he darted off to the exit, running with a tear.

Yet the man chased after him, stopped him at the door,

And said to him: "Please stop, what are you running for?

Everyone in this play is on an equal level with you,

Their chance of failure is equal, and success too.

But be proud of yourself, be proud of how you act,

For you are perfect in your own way, and that's a fact."

The boy wiped the tear, he could feel his confidence grow,

and as he walked, he turned and said: "On with the show!"
