She handed me a dream
and forced a promise out of me
Don't you ever let go, she said
Promise you won't let us go
We only have a little bit of time
this world is destined to fall
your place in it is fragile
these dreams will make it strong
At times, they'll consume you
Nights will past without sleep
but I know you can make it
you get that from me
I asked for an answer
but the hourglass was half-full
she left me haunted and alone
carrying dreams by the bulk
hers was not the first at all
nor would it be the last
there are many holding me down
while i use their strength to push me up
She handed me a dream
heavier than any feather
it consumes me and suffocates me
no sleep or appetite or hunger
the weight they hold, holds me down
and Im running out of will
as I will myself to let them go
promises become contracts though
and I know i can't ever let go
because she handed me her dream
and now it's on me to run its course
