There is

Something here

Unseen.

It caresses us

With small

Painted

Pained

Hands.

It looks at us

With dark

Deep

Beating

Eyes.

It looks like

A woman

Made of

The night sky;

Eyes a-twinkle

Hair a buzz of clouds,

Clothes a deep shade of Purple.

She is humble

But she is the

Woman of the house.

Her hands

Taught me

How to fold

How to iron

How to wash the dishes

The manners of a house.

Her hands

Taught me

How to pick a lock

How to carve words

How to love a man

The manners of the heart.

My mother

Never

Liked her

The way

A sun

And

The Moon

Clash.

But

She was mine

Nobody could

Take her from me.

Except

When they did

They sent me away -

Uprooted me.

But still

She taught me

And only me.
