Shameful Whispers

Sh

Mental illness

The thing everyone knows about and no one talks about

Always discussed in hushed whispers

That girl you see with the scars on her wrist

No one asks why or tries to help

All she hears is get over it and

You’re just doing it for attention

Always discussed in hushed whispers

He’s just sad about the divorce, he’ll be fine eventually

Children are dying at their own hands, eleven, twelve

Silent killers, everyone suffering no one speaking

The solution may not be simple, but it’s better than now

Help can be provided, but only if we know who needs it

If people saw mental illness like a cancer

Spreading, changing, evolving

Maybe people wouldn’t be so quick to judge

Having open conversations instead of closed doors

Always discussed in hushed whispers
