Shackles & Chains

Shackles and chains are the confinements

Of the lives of African-Americans

Some embrace the suffering of our ancestors

But some also transform these actions into jeers

They use the slave name “Nigger” in everyday life

Expecting “niggah” to make a stormy day into a sunny one

While in bondage, did the slaves inherit this title?

Did they jest and jeer while imposed to collect crops for miles?

If not, why initiate the belief?

Through this, we make our people more apt to be considered a beast.

The white man may have put our ancestors through all of these pains,

But we ourselves are wearing these shackles and chains.
