The seventh sense

Maybe eyes aren't just for seeing
and ears just for hearing.
Maybe they are for reliving
because I swear there are
portions of my life
missing-
But some are just so clear,
so sharp,
they stab me as if the moment
hadn't been from before.
It's now.
Maybe that's why they call it
Flashback.
But, actually, it's more of a
Slapback.
No bright lights or faded edgaes
to remind you that the pain is old.
No, instead it steathily sneaks
into your conscious and awaits a welcome
most like a cry
But you can't cry with everyone watching
so you turn the other cheek
and smile against a past
that is all too present.

Well that time is over.
There is no RSVP, ASAP, please join the moment
contact me
let me know when you'd like to show up and
remind me of the very thing I am leaving behind
the very thing I am learning from.
I am sorry.
That time is over.
No, you have to rise
past the past
that seems to all race forward
and poison the present only to
promise meeting again in the future.
Well that door is closed,
no access granted.
I am sorry.
I have better things to do.
I have better things to live up to.
And I guess I can thank you for giving me
the drive to get there.
