Senses
Location
I close my eyes.
I want to see
The canopy of oaks
Dancing together
Swaying
Their mossy branches
Back and forth
To their natural rhythm
I want to smell
The ocean’s curling waves
Its powerful fists
Calmed
By a profound longing
To caress
The sand below
I want to hear
The humming bird laugh
In the warmth of Spring
Drunk
Off the sweet
Red
Valerian nectar
I want to taste
The tears of the sky
Getting ready to
Slide
Down the cloud’s cheek
Brushed away only
By the warm fingers of the sun
I want to feel
The Earth breathing
Slowly.
Steady.
With me.
We are alive together.
My eyes open.
I see
Destruction.
Death.
Humans grow rage and greed
Dizzying in their forgetfulness
In this Age of Information.
Never more clueless.
I smell
Toxicity.
Cancer.
Lit, hazardous greenhouse fumed, cigarettes
Which force my lungs
Into man induced pneumothorax
In this Era of - Indulgence.
I hear
Struggling.
Silence.
Seagulls trudging
Through the slick
Oil lathered waters
In this Period of - Money is Everything.
I taste
Pollution.
Emptiness.
Once a fruitful environment
Gives way to clearings
Where rainforests once stood.
In this Time of - More is Necessary.
I feel
Struggling
Helplessness
The Earth whimpers and shivers
Under the authority of man’s machines.
The helpless are cowering away
In this Epoch of - The Helpless Planet
I want to see, smell, hear, taste and feel
Change
Sequoia’s standing righteous and towering,
Watching over us as we continue the same mistakes.
We are not so different from one another
The Earth
Moves
Loves
Feels
Just like us humans do.
Nature Will Retaliate
Wash-Away Hurricanes
Burying Tsunamis
Sucking Tornados
Swallowing Earthquakes
Proving her Power over us.
The Earth is alive with us
Maybe
She will forgive us
If
We make better decisions
Working together
As a Global unit
In a perpetual state of making amends.
The Earth can overcome.
