Senior Year

Wed, 03/04/2015 - 19:45 -- Je9

Hey you.

Congratulations!

You started from the bottom

and (now we here)

you’ve grown enough

to know that positions

and hierarchies don't matter

when you don’t take it

all to heart.

You are no longer that girl

who made sharpened blades out

of others’ opinions;

today they fall like flowers

at your feet,

having the choice to

pluck them from the ground,

gather a bouquet,

or just

keep walking.

Little steps forward,

for now you at least know

what not to wear,

attempting the mysterious

powers of socialization.

Yes, you still have

that middle school residue

lodged inside your arteries,

but your paths are

looking clearer now,

like how the blue skies

scream future

and you’re stressed,

but happy.

You’ve found a palace

in a library

and a home

in a friend group.

You’ve found a strength

within you to grow branches

in your mind and feathers

on your back.

So congratulations.

You made it.
