i am the high school counselor

proud to see my kids grow

as freshmans to seniors

an exciting moment for them

a time they reflected on all

that occurred in their lives

the buzz they're stinging is full of excitement and joy

there is an urgency to be the best

and stand out from the rest

i watched them grow up

to be the young men and women they transformed to

an opportunity

to rewrite history

so truthful, society will eat every word that was said

about how they'll dropout of school

over 100 are on track to graduate

all i ask them is not fall into a trap call senioritis

that's more lazier than a cat not wanting to jump on one's lap

for them

it's the opportunity to shatter records more cleaner than

a baseball player juicing who claims to be in the hall of fame or

like that show blind date, a horrible date leads to wall of shame

anyhow

back to what i writing about

it's going to be sad when they graduate

at the same time, i'm content for their happiness

this is what its all about

preparing them for the real world

where nobody cares

its about navigating your path to that promise land

as dr. martin luther king always say to his people

my students, my people

i say to you

as you leave high school

you are beginning a new chapter in your life

never lose your self-respect

never let anyone take away your identity

your individuality

hunger for success is the drive you feed your mentality

and not be victims of any form of brutality

you are all priceless

you are all irreplaceable

nobody built like you

you design yourself

as you move on to the next chapter in your lives

take two lessons with you

one-be a part of solution and not a problem

and two-don't be comfortable, be uncomfortable

you are all special in my eyes
